3...three...

I am still working on the birds, though decisions about colors have been difficult today. I guess it's just one of those days were decisions and inspiration are evasive. I bought a new brush yesterday a #6 filbert and I noticed they have flower brushes available, yep, brushes  made for acrylic flower painting. I resisted the temptation, so that I would continue to focus on a more  abstract view point for my paintings.

Yesterday-Today

This is yesterday's watercolor in acrylic. I am still working on it but thought I would post it and than get some distance; leave it for an hour or two and return this afternoon.(Did I mention it has been subzero in the Midwest and that I haven't left the house due to deplorable road conditions!?)  I used a table top easel and am realizing I may need to invest in a bigger easel. I have a portable easel but I have issues with its stability. The top painting is a one that I have been playing with for days. I seem to prefer edges that are not as strong leaving the shape to be defined by the person viewing the painting. I believe the term is painterly.

Old Friend

I have been working so hard on trying to learn how to paint with acrylic that I forgot what freedom comes from painting with watercolor and how relaxing it is...mesmerizing actually.

Happy New Year

For me, every painting has it's "moment", that is, a special color or color combination, perhaps a wonderful stroke or a lost and found edge. My paintings and technique leave much to be desired, still I enjoy the process. Sometimes I will start out with a reference and a line drawing and begin painting, after I paint a somewhat structured painting I run my brush across it to try and find the painting again. I never know where I am going until I begin to finish and then the moment or should I say moments take me to the finish line. The process is so enjoyable and the freedom of the medium is thrilling. Classes begin in March. Funny, my teacher last semester asked me where I learned to paint; at first I thought this could be a compliment, but upon reflection, it may very well have been my teacher thinking; goodness, so much to unlearn! lol.
