As I Work on this 5x7 watercolor I have been thinking about mixing paint on the paper instead of on the palette. The colors seem more vibrant when mixed on the paper as long as you know they mix well. I have also been using a lot of palette color just swishing my brush here and there.

You are right Cathy! Colours look more vibrant. This is Charles Reid's technique. He usually mixes paint on the paper. Lovely work, Cathy! Congratulations.
I am sorry you are feeling melancholy. I have had that lately too. It seems that every week something terrible happens to someone I love. The world is hard. Life is hard.
We have to create heaven and not feed hell.
But sometimes it's ok to feel melancholy I suppose. It's hard if it goes on and on though.
Are you putting your paintings into a sketchbook? I think they would make a gorgeous visual diary, don't you? You are capturing the true essence of summer on this paper. :)
