A few paintings and Happy New Year

It has been a few months since i have posted any paintings. I guess work has really taken a lot of energy this fall. Time to resume painting. These paintings are all challenged in many ways but the process is always evolving and i am always learning.

Distractions

The top painting is from my withering garden, thanks to extreme heat and lack of rain. I guess i could make the excuse that i have been doing a rain dance for two months, but there are so many other distractions and excuses; grand babies,books,dogs,walks.... The bottom painting is peaches and lemons painted this morning at the kitchen table since the both the back porch and my art room are boiling hot! I actually saw a grass fire on the side of the expressway.

Learning to mix it up!

My attempts at mixed media.... gouache, ink pen, watercolor pencils and watercolor.

This is actually the same picture cut up and/ or cropped. As usual i got carried away with the ink pen and it overpowered the painting so i cut it up and decided i could live with it. The process continues and i learn as i go.

flowers ...always flowers

This photo isn't the best. In this painting i was working on finding dark reds that were really dark but still read as red. Tricky business but fun none the less.

flowers

The colors got a little overworked on this because the black and turquoise created a dull color. I brought it back to life with a bit more pink but i liked it better before the unfortunate bleed. What i learned was ultimately more valuable the completed painting:)

Winds of Change...

I have a feeling my painting is evolving and changing yet again. Like a child growing and developing in different ways i can feel a playful spirit taking me and my painting in a different direction. For these practice paintings i used my old WN palette. I had forgotten about sap green and how wonderfully it merges with perm. rose and ultramarine blue. I am not that pleased with stems of the cherries in the the one painting, but these paintings are practice to fearlessly explore what will happen if... ?Earlier in the week my exploration landed in the trash:)

Two of a kind...

I recently went to the Dr.'s office and couldn't help but notice the beautiful artwork they displayed, all from the same artist. Watercolors, acrylics, all beautiful Some of my favorites were a combination of both mediums with a little pastel and ink thrown into the mix. This is what i would love to do this year.

Both paintings are inspired by a nineteenth century stone work.
Acrylic ( which i know nothing about !) and watercolor, pastel and watercolor pencil. Actually the acrylic has a failed watercolor underneath but you can barely see it.

Orange you glad it's Sunday:)

Miracles do happen

Yep, two posts in two days... thanks to Martin Luther! The white and flowers are the colors my daughter-in-law picked for our grand- daughters room. Well sort of the color of the walls are the most wonderful green, anyway that and the thought of a new arrival this spring influenced my lighter than usual mood.Actually the white flower painting photographed quite dark.... to new beginnings:)

The good the bad and the ugly

I painted the sunflowers over holiday break, and in my true fashion i managed over squiggle the center sunflower. Impulsively and merrily i scratched away without a care or thought( obviously). So this is in my failed pile. the tulips are this mornings practice on scrap paper. My computer runs so slow that is is difficult to post. That and the failed paintings have resulted in less posts and comments. I plan on buying a new computer soon. In the mean time i have resolved to commit to posts and comments .... weekly i hope!
