kitchen table still life

The orange line in this painting isn't straight. I guess I need to use a straight edge when painting lines. After I posted this I went back and corrected it. Looking at the painting now the I'm not sure about the orange line and the way it divides the paper.

Spring Tulips

Tulips on my kitchen table. The greens are a little stronger in real the painting. Looking at this it looks as if I need to add more darks at the base of the arrangement. I am going to set this aside and think about it.

Back to the Iris again. This time I tried for a more transparent violet.
I'm thinking the orange under the Iris needs another wash and perhaps more back painting? Maybe just another painting of the Iris with a different direction.

This painting is before I added more darks and bits of scarlet lake and cad red. The violet in the background is actually less brown than it looks.Looking at it,it seemed to lack zing. So I added darker blue greens and bits of orange.

pinky pinks

Productive day today. Working on developing a less defined style , allowing the watercolors to take me in the direction I need to go. I am not terribly crazy about this composition. The two flower in the center are too much. I think i will try this again.
Today has to be one of my favorites. Lots of clouds and rain. A perfect day to stay inside and paint, while listening to Antony. I bought some iris at the market this week. One of the most beautiful flowers. Actually, I have never purchased them as a cut flower before and am interested to see how long they will last.
My painting is going to a place where I want to be ,that is, paintings that have some structure and a lot of color dancing around. The cad yellow was disappointing and the main iris is a bit dark. I am really more interested in the colors that dance in the back .

paint problems

Lately everything I paint just isn't what I want.Painting failures one after another. I am trying to go in a different direction and it is proving difficult. Maybe I am just not the type of painter that I am trying to be. Painting with less control actually takes more planning then painting in a more controlled fashion. So I posted a painting from a year or so ago. The subject matter seems appropriate spring.... hope.
