Please...

Boring really, something must change, background i think. I'm off work for the summer so i do have time to play. The home projects are always there, garden, home chores( which i love), but i like to paint so there shall be time. Life begins... hooray. Breath deep.

I agree that the background is a bit plain, but the painting deserves some comments. The flowers are lovely, the colors rich as usual, overall a brilliant hand at work.

Gosh, not boring at all - the red flowers just vibrate on the page with enough energy a detailed background isn't needed :) I like this one! Happy summer!

You know, I like it this way, very much.

Yes, Don is almost doing the out-of-school dance, but he's in an all-day class this week. Friday the dance will commence. So happy you can take a break now.

And paint!

Cathy, don't change it! It's absolutely NOT boring. I'm drawn to the soft shadowy background foliage that is so subtly done. Red flowers are difficult! I also like the splatter. Stop right there! RoseAnn

I really like this alot. I can see where you feel that the background needs something and I'm just thinking a light very pale wash of something, I'm not even sure what, because I wouldn't want you to take away from the wonderful vibrancy of the the red flowers which look like they are just dancing on the page. Maybe hold up a few different colors behind it and see if that helps.

Such rich, strong colors, and brushwork--two things I always admire in your paintings.
If you don't like the white--and it doesn't bother me--before you paint anything on it perhaps try what a teacher of mine did: she tore up colored papers and arranged them on the painting to see how it would look if she painted something there.
I also think of what they do in Chinese painting, where there's the primary subject, say a rich black stalk of bamboo, then a "friend," a more lightly painted echo of the bamboo stalk.

i actually love this composition as it is. it is giving the roses the attention they demand. like this, it is a contrast to your other paintings, which i also enjoy.
