Lost and Found

I painted two forsythia paintings. I drew the more detailed painting first while the much looser version was painted without a drawing. I prefer the looser version. I think maybe i will go back in and very carefully add a bit more negative painting.

The more detailed painting i really got lost in and couldn't figure out where i was going? Does this ever happen to you?

Both are lovely, but I think I like the looser "no drawing" one better!

Cathy, I can totally relate to what you are saying. Especially with florals and greens where the colors are so related in hue and intensity. I'm working on one right now which I will post once I'm finished. But how I handle that is take a break from the painting and step back and look at it. Also, I look at the painting through a mirror and finally, I leave the room for awhile and then come back to it.

I think both versions of your painting look good but the looser one is warmer and slightly more exciting.

But one thing for sure, painting is so much fun, don't you love it?

It's difficult to say which one I like better, they are both beautiful in different ways. The first one is more subtle, be careful to do more to it!
I tried forsythia and couldn't do it, so well done to you!

Cathy the energy and power in your paintings is just incredible. I like both, but I love number two, the one with the boldest colors! Hugs

I like them both very much. But I would add some focus points to the first one. Your colors are as usual - great.
All my sketches are adventures, never know where I will happen to be when finish))

I love them both - for different reasons. The second is more bold and striking, and the first more delicate. Both gorgeous xx

Cathy, Both the works are lovely. The lower one or the earlier one has your trademark stamp on it: lovely warm colors. The second one as you said has a different charm. Love them both.

I like them both! They have different moods, don't they? I wish I could let go of my need to be so detailed and get a bit looser like you did here. Very pretty!

I think I know what you mean, Cathy, and I agree with you. Both paintings are beautiful. The top one is more loose, free, and delicate and leaves more to imagination. While the bottom one has harder edges and more intense colors, very bold and impressive, typical of your style. You are probably trying to break out of what you usually do and try different things and I really like the result.

They are both SO different! I am going to surprise you now and say that though both are beautiful in their own way, I am actually more drawn to the lower one! It is very 'you'! And I still think it has a loose feel to it. I love the colours you have used for both paintings. Gorgeous!!! :0)

Out of my painting ignorance, I like the loose one a bit more too, though both are vibrant, as always.

Happy Easter to you.

As I'm always trying to achieve a loose style, (and finding it almost impossible) I like the looser one.. however, the other is equally as good, each in their own way... No help here huh?!

Wonderful colors going on in this one Cathy!
