Get your lily on....

For some reason this painting photographed giant, I have no clue why and well, I'm not going to change it. I haven't painted in a week or so I have been so preoccupied with life's problems so it was nice to sit and play. I got a little carried away scratching the lilies and I think I will add a little more of a dark color to center of the big lily,or not.
Fun news my future daughter-in-law actually wants to use one of my watercolors as a shower invitation. Now we just have to decide which one:)

For the doing...

Well Sunday, also known as fun day, was that indeed. I visited a bookstore and bought 2 new books; The Women, a novel about the women in Frank Lloyd Wright's life and Endurance Shackleton's incredible Voyage to Antarctica in 1914. I also visited an art store and bought a few pastels and some ink pens. I manged to use all of the new supplies on this painting. Like a kid in a toy store I couldn't wait to try them out. Who cares if the Lillie's centers are overworked!

Or in my case to greedily use your new stuff!

All things considered

Call me crazy, today I went outside in the wind and rain and cut pussy willow and forsythia branches,a spring time ritual. Unfortunately the good pussy willow branches were at the top of the bush. I noticed them while chatting to a friend and decided that they were just too beautiful to pass up. So I attempted to cut them while hanging out of an upstairs bedroom window. Amusing to anyone who would have witnessed it,but totally unsuccessful. Needless to say I fetched the ladder and loppers and away I went.Success.

As for the painting I painted this today. I am not loving the buds at the top, what was I thinking. I thought I would post this since it is the closest thing to a successful painting that I've had all week.

Bizarro world

There is a time ,when you confuse gouache for acrylic and your dog sleeps in the closet because she is too old to find her bed, and that you continue to work on a painting that screams STOP that one must know that they have entered BIZARRO world. A dangerous but fascinating place where caution is thrown to the wind and you wander until you are quite frankly done.

*Warning, bizarro world is not for babies.

Purple Haze

Purples Haze and a wish for spring

Below is a beginning painting of Iris. The last painting I did of Iris the paint was way too thick using mainly diox. purple. Now I seem am using a combination of magenta and Windsor blue or pink opera and cobalt violet in different combos. and it seems to be more lush and transparent.

Waiting for the next snow storm in Michigan to begin this evening, not too bad only 2-6 ":)

Saturday afternoon

Color seems to be my main focus and lack of discipline causes me to do the line thingy.Oh well, life is short might as well paint as I wish, one never knows what one may discover.
